Eradication Hopes

In 1980, on May 8th, The World Health Organization confirmed the eradication of Smallpox.  41 years later, on 5/8/21, I have more eradication hopes.  The 128th day of 2021 is a milestone for me as I am now two-weeks past my second Pfizer shot.  So, while I am not beyond the effects of Covid-19, I am comforted by the knowledge that I am in the relative immunity phase and my job now is to continue to take precautions so as to not spread it to those who have not yet reached the same phase.  We continue to move forward, but we are NOT there yet.  My hopes are that we get to a point where the WHO will confirm the eradication of Covid-19.  But I am not sure how soon that will be.  We must continue to encourage those who are reticent to get vaccinated to reconsider and get the shots.  But this is not all that needs to be eradicated from our lives.  The eradication of poverty is another enormous need, and one that will take time and a lot of societal change to occur.  But, when I was looking for eradication images (I have fallen back into an image-a-day theme as well as hopes), I came about this one.  Really, if we can eradicate fear and ignorance and replace them with love and knowledge, we can probably eradicate poverty, Covid-19, and a lot of other things that ail us.  It's gargantuan, but, bit by bit, we can work towards these goals.
